A portion of the proceeds from our products support the Forest Garden Approach. The Forest Garden Approach starts with farm ers planting thousands of trees that restore soil and helps grow a large variety of food to eat and sell. The Forest Gardens are currently being created in countries in East and West Africa and are part of the Great Green Wall project, spearheaded by the African Union to halt the expansion of the Sahara desert by planting a barrier of trees running 4,815 miles along its southern edge.

Not only does each Forest Garden capture carbon and increase biodiversity, but it also supports ending hunger and poverty. etnies consumers and Trees for the Future are working together to grow a more sustainable system to feed the world, build local econo mies and better our planet. The etnies x TFTF collection features sustainable fabrics and recycled rubbers. Each piece is eco-friendly and vegan with earthy, neutral colorways inspired by the Moringa Tree.

Referred to as the “tree of life” due to its nutrient-dense properties, many Forest Garden farmers grow Moringa trees for the vast benefits it offers them, their families, and their land. Since partnering with Trees For The Future, etnies has been able to plant over 2 million trees. None of this would have been possible without your support! But why stop there?

Help us get to our goal of 3 million! You can learn more at trees.org

LET’S KEEP PLANTING! FALL IN LOVE WITH OUR ROOTS AND THE TREES THEY PRODUCE! IN 2011, ETNIES LAUNCHED BUY A SHOE PLANT A TREE (BASPAT) WHEN ETNIES OWNER AND CEO, PIERRE-ANDRÉ SENIZERGUES DECIDED TO INVEST IN THE FUTURE BY PLANTING TREES IN RAIN FORESTS THROUGHOUT COSTA RICA FOR EVERY PAIR OF JAMESON 2 ECO SHOES SOLD. THE FOLLOWING YEAR, ETNIES BEGAN WORKING WITH TREES FOR THE FUTURE (TFTF), AN AGROFORESTRY NON-PROFIT THAT TRAINS FARMERS THROUGH A 4-YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM CALLED THE FOREST GARDEN APPROACH, WHICH HELPS FARMERS PL ANT THOUSANDS OF TREES THAT RESTORE THEIR SOIL WITH THE GOAL OF BREAKING THE CYCLES OF CLIMATE CHANGE, GENERATIONAL POVERTY AND REBUILDING FOOD SYSTEMS FROM THE GROUND UP. AS A RESULT, THE ETNIES BASPAT PROGRAM HAS NOW EXPANDED ACROSS FIVE CONTINENTS, WITH OUR CURRENT PHASE OF PLANTING IN AFRICA. OVER 2.5 MILLION TREES PLANTED MORE THAN 150 MILLION POUNDS OF CARBON SEQUESTERED YOUR SUPPORT MAKES OUR IMPACT A REALITY. HELP US REACH THE NEXT GOAL OF PLANTING 3 MILLION TREES.

HOW IT WORKS Each purchase from the etnies x TFTF collection is so much more than a shoe. Not only does each pair plant a tree it also contributes to the following TFTF initiatives: PROTECTING THE PLANET The Farmer’s Garden Approach restores degraded land, captures carbon, improves biodiversity and prevents future unsustainable land use practices. ENDING HUNGER The average forest garden is home to dozens of food crops, producing access to diverse, nutrient-rich meals year-round. ENDING POVERTY Not only are you supporting farmers’ crops of producing fruits and veggies, but farmers also start businesses selling seeds and seedlings, honey, syrup, soap, timber and more. EMPOWERING WOMEN Farmer Groups in TFTF’s program are required to be composed of 30% women. Most exceed that benchmark, with many led by or composed entirely of women farmers.

THE ETNIES X TREES FOR THE FUTURE LINE EXISTS, SO WE CAN MAKE A MEANINGFUL IMPACT IN COMMUNITIES AROUND THE WORLD AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY.
